Welcome to April's insolvency stats blogAll the data is taken from the monthly company insolvency statistics created by the insolvency service.
The graph below shows the total number of company insolvencies, split by the type of insolvency, the data is from April 2020 to April 2025.
In April 2025, there were 2,053 company insolvencies in England and Wales which is 3% more than March 2025 but 5% less than April 2024. While insolvency numbers have slightly declined from the 30-year high in 2023, they remain historically high.
From May 2024 to April 2025, 1 in 190 companies (52.5 per 10,000) entered insolvency which is down from 57.0 per 10,000 the year before. Although rates are rising from 2020–21 lows, they are still well below the 2008–09 recession peak (113.1 per 10,000), partly due to a doubling in the number of registered companies.
There were 2,053 registered company insolvencies in April 2025 in England & WalesThese figures are made up as follows:
Creditors Voluntary Liquidations - CVLs =1,544
Compulsory liquidations =379
Administrations =105
Company Voluntary Arrangements - CVA's = 24
Receivership = 1
Moratorium = 61 between 26th June 2020 & 30th April 2025
