Welcome to our December insolvency statistics blog - the last stats of 2024 (published in January 2025).This month we bring you an annual summary for 2024 - The data is taken from monthly company insolvency statistics created by the insolvency service.
In total there were 23,872 company insolvencies in 2024, this was 5% lower than in 2023, however 2023 had the highest figures since 1993. Throughout the year the highest number of insolvencies were creditors' voluntary liquidations (CVLs). A total number of 1 in 191 companies on the Companies House effective register entered into insolvency in 2024.
The graph below shows the total number of company insolvencies, split by the type of insolvency, the data is from December 2019 until December 2024.

There were 1,838 registered company insolvencies in December 2024 in England & Wales
- 6% lower than last month
- 14% lower than December 2023
- 1 in 189 companies entered into insolvency in the last 12 month period
These figures are made up as follows:
Creditors Voluntary Liquidations - CVLs = 1,421
Compulsory liquidations = 273
Administrations = 127
Company Voluntary Arrangements - CVA's = 17
Receivership =0
Moratorium = 59 between 26th June 2020 & 31st December 2024
